Your recovery: what's normal
and what to expect
How bone stress recovery generally goes, how much two legs normally differ, and the testing targets that show the body is ready for the next step. Built from StressFracturePhysio's own running patient testing.
What to expect
Your return to running timeline
Pick the bone involved. These are typical times for runners to reach their return-to-running testing targets. Every person is different and this is a guide, not a promise.
Left vs right
How much two legs normally differ
Even in healthy runners the two legs are not identical. This is the typical side-to-side gap across hundreds of runners tested. A gap, especially on single-leg jumping, is normal.
Compared to healthy runners
Where bone stress runners tend to sit
The injured leg compared with a typical healthy runner. Generally this suggests the deeper hip and hamstring strength is the main thing to rebuild, while the calf and quad return close to normal.

The testing targets you're working toward
Typical numbers for a healthy runner. These are the markers used to judge readiness for impact, running and speed.
